Shakespeare on the River Festival Rebranding

Shakespeare on the River Rebranding
University work

We were asked to choose a pre-existing festival or event and to then re-brand it. I chose the Stratford Shakespeare on the River Festival (as a Gippsland girl, I found it fitting to focus on an event from my shire).

Logo
Below are the variations of the logo on white. The main (or official) logo for the event is the first from the left. As they get smaller in size, or as the environment in which the logo is in, more components get shed off it until you are left with the skull sat in water.

I used the skull as a motif from Shakespeare's well known tragedy Hamlet to give an attachment to the playwright himself, as it is the most recognisable image from his work. To incorporate the river part of the festival I played with a lot of ideas and settled with simple ripples around the skulls head, just to suggest a body of water. As for the spotlight, I felt that it added extra drama and further suggested that the event revolved around theatrical performances.
Collectable Posters
Next are some collectable posters. As these posters are based off of 2018's events, I took quotes from the 3 Shakespeare plays performed throughout the festival and created typographic posters using 3 different colour ways.
Programs
These posters were the backing to the programs for the event, each of which shared the same colour scheme.
I had to trim these by hand please excuse the roughness.
We were also asked to create merchandise for the festival/event, and so I created 2 images to go onto t-shirts and tote bags that correlate with the theme for their art gallery/showcase (The Tempest) and the theme of their short story competition (For The Love of Shakespeare). I used the skull from the logo and had it floating alongside an item linking to the themes - these items being an anchor for 'The Tempest' and a heart for 'For The Love of Shakespeare'. My thought behind each of these designs were that for each year the festival would have different themes, and so the images would change on the t-shirt from year to year. This could foster a tradition with visitors to collect each year's t-shirts; which would be limited edition to the time period that the event would run.

Wine Glasses
The Bard's Banquet is a meal that occurs every year at the festival. The meal is often accompanied with performances and debates within the theme of the night (as well as the opportunity to dress up). I felt, as part of the cost for the event, that participants could take away a complimentary wine glass with the logo engraved onto it as a memento of the night and the event.
Event Flags
The last thing I created for this festival are flags to be placed outside the event location to direct festival goers to the right location. If they were to have a program, they would see that the colours for different events correlated to the flags: for example, flags for performances are dark blue, flags for food events are light blue and flags for other events are red.
If you wish to find out more about the festival (and I recommend you do, I found it thoroughly enjoyable to research) here is the website!
